The Saudi Association
of Midwifery (SAM): is a non-profit organization that was established as the
first midwifery scientific and professional association in Saudi Arabia under the
umbrella of the Saudi Commission of Health Specialties. In addition, It is the official representative for
midwives in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which has full membership with the
International Confederation of Midwives (ICM).
The Saudi Association
of Midwifery is an
extension of the Saudi Midwifery Group (SMG), which was founded in August 2015
under the umbrella of the Saudi Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (SSOG).
Vision: To be the leading scientific and professional Midwifery association in
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Mission:
To strengthen midwives and advance the profession of
midwifery in order to enhance women’s reproductive health, their newborns and
families health, their newborns and families.
"A midwife is a person who has
successfully completed a midwifery education programme that is based on the ICM
Essential Competencies for Midwifery Practice and the framework of the ICM
Global Standards for Midwifery Education and is recognized in the country where
it is located; who has acquired the requisite qualifications to be registered
and/or legally licensed to practice midwifery and use the title ‘midwife’; and
who demonstrates competency in the practice of midwifery".
